What to Put on Your Skin After Laser, IPL or Microneedling (NZ Guide)

Laser, IPL, peels and microneedling deliver great results — but the week after your treatment matters as much as the treatment itself. Skin is temporarily fragile, dehydrated and inflammation-prone, and using the wrong products can mean irritation, pigmentation or diminished results. Always follow your clinician's specific aftercare instructions first; the guidance below covers the products our customers — including many clinic patients — rely on during recovery.

The rules of post-procedure skincare

  • Pause the actives. No retinol, vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid), AHAs/BHAs or exfoliation until your skin has recovered and your clinician gives the OK
  • Hydrate and repair the barrier — this is the whole job for the first days
  • SPF religiously — freshly treated skin pigments extremely easily
  • Keep it minimal — gentle cleanser, repair product, sunscreen. That's it.

Medical-grade repair dressings

These are the post-procedure specialists — used widely after laser and photon treatments in clinics across Asia, and a category we're known for at Beauté Library:

Voolga Medical Sodium Hyaluronate Dressing — medical-grade hyaluronic masks that soothe skin, support recovery and help reduce post-treatment pigmentation and scarring. Hypoallergenic and designed exactly for this use.

Comfy Recombinant Collagen Dressing — biotech recombinant collagen supports tissue repair, maintains the moist environment healing skin needs, and helps minimise scarring.

Barrier-repair creams and serums

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ — the affordable classic: 5% panthenol and madecassoside, specifically indicated for post-procedure skin (IPL, laser, peels, LED). Fragrance-free and dermatologically tested.

SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Gel — a calming botanical gel that soothes visible redness; a clinic favourite after treatments.

For a luxury option, La Mer The Concentrate is clinically shown to help skin's barrier recover around professional peels — used for 3 weeks before treatment, barrier strength began returning to pre-treatment levels within hours.

And FILLMED Skin Perfusion GR-Youth Mask — from the French aesthetic-medicine brand — is a professional plumping mask for dehydrated, freshly treated skin.

Sunscreen: the step that protects your investment

Once your clinician clears sunscreen use, a 100% mineral formula is gentlest: SkinCeuticals Physical Matte UV Defense SPF 50 uses only zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. New Zealand's UV is harsh — this step decides whether your pigmentation results last.

A simple 7-day recovery plan

  • Days 1–3: gentle cleanse, repair dressing (Voolga or Comfy) daily, Cicaplast B5+ morning and night
  • Days 4–7: continue dressings every second day; add Phyto Corrective Gel if redness lingers; mineral SPF every morning
  • After clearance: reintroduce actives one at a time, starting with vitamin C

This is general information, not medical advice — your clinician's instructions always come first. Everything above is in stock at Beauté Library NZ with fast NZ delivery and free shipping over $199.
